Abstract The purpose of present research is study the role of achievement goal orientation and self-efficacy in learning approaches, and explaining predicted model of learning approaches of students. Learning approach shows quality and manner learning of materials and were consisted of three levels: surface, deep and achievement. Achievement goal orientation refers to learners reasons and purpo...
متن کاملCan we insist students reach proficiency on homework? Yes!
This study involved a comparison between the conditions of Mastery Mode against NonMastery. In the Mastery Mode, selected problems were mastery problems. A student, who got an incorrect answer, went into the Mastery Mode in which he/she had to get three consecutive problems correct testing the same skill. Although this process took long, it forced the student to master the subject matter. In th...
متن کاملThe New “arms Race” in Educational Technology: Computerized Personalized Assignments vs. High-tech Cheating
For at least thirty years there has been the hope and belief that computers may be able to aid and eventually possibly replace humans in the process of teaching other humans.[1] And before the invention of the computer, similar claims were made for other technologies (the printing press, the radio, the television, the video recorder/player, ...) too. Where the computer may be qualitatively diff...
متن کاملFormative assessment in physiology teaching using a wireless classroom communication system.
Systems physiology, studied by biomedical engineers, is an analytical way to approach the homeostatic foundations of basic physiology. In many systems physiology courses, students attend lectures and are given homework and reading assignments to complete outside of class. The effectiveness of this traditional approach was compared with an approach in which a wireless classroom communication sys...
متن کاملVideo Game-Based Education in Mechanical Engineering: A Look at Student Engagement*
One of the core courses in the undergraduate mechanical engineering curriculum has been completely redesigned. In the new numerical methods course, all assignments and learning experiences are built around a video/computer game. Students are given the task of writing computer programs to race a simulated car around a track. In doing so, students learn and implement numerical methods content. Th...
